Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
SonarFish is a Mac app for recording and transcribing meetings. This policy explains what information is involved when you use the app and this website. In short: your recordings and transcripts stay on your Mac, and we don't sell or share your data.
Recordings and transcripts
Recordings, transcripts and settings are stored on your Mac, in the folder you choose (by default Documents › SonarFish). SonarFish does not upload them to any SonarFish server.
Services you choose to use
- Cloud transcription. If you select a cloud engine (such as ElevenLabs, AssemblyAI, OpenAI or Deepgram) and enter your own API key, the meeting audio is sent directly from your Mac to that provider to be transcribed, under that provider's terms and privacy policy.
- Apple on-device transcription runs on your Mac; audio is not sent to SonarFish.
- Google Drive. If you turn on Drive sync, files are copied into your Google Drive for Desktop folder and uploaded by Google's app, under Google's terms.
Your API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain on your Mac.
Information we collect
To use SonarFish you sign in with your email address. Our server (hosted by Supabase) stores only what's needed to run your account:
- Your email address, to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
- Your plan and, when applicable, when your free trial started and when a paid plan ends.
- An anonymous identifier for each Mac you sign in on – a one-way hash calculated on your Mac, so your Mac's real hardware ID never leaves it – plus the SonarFish version and when it last checked in. It's used to limit an account to 3 Macs and to give each Mac one free trial.
We don't store your recordings, transcripts, meeting titles or contacts, and we don't use advertising or third-party tracking. When you visit this website, our hosting provider may log standard technical information (such as IP address and browser type) for security.
You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time by writing to hello@sonarfish.app.
Permissions on your Mac
SonarFish asks for macOS permissions – microphone, screen & system audio recording, and optionally accessibility, speech recognition and notifications – only to provide its features on your Mac. They do not give us access to your data.
Recording other people
You are responsible for informing meeting participants and obtaining any consent required by law before recording them.
Your rights
You can delete your recordings at any time from the app or from Finder. For any privacy question or request, contact us at hello@sonarfish.app.
Changes
